Anime: winter 2016

Before I list out which series seem promising and I’ll go check out, I want to add in a few words that… I pretty much didn’t follow many of last season’s anime aside from three or so.  Thanks to exam studying, I didn’t have much time to do some catch-up marathon, especially when I had only seen an episode or two for the majority of the series I was planning to try out.  So last season was pretty much a blank for me aside from One Punch Man, Haikyuu S2 and Gintama.  And I guess Utawarerumono.  I’ll finish that one off since I’ve seen about half of it.

Anyway, let’s go ahead with listing out this season’s anime that interest me!  As usual, I used Random Curiosity’s write-up to judge whether or not I want to check it out.  This time, I hope to keep my list as short as possible because clearly I can’t handle 15+ series like I used to.

Definitely watching:

  • Ansatsu Kyoushitsu S2
But of course I’ll watch more of this!  I really enjoyed the first season and having more of this animated makes me happy!
  • Durarara!!x2 Ketsu
Oooo more DRRR this season, yay!

  • Prince of Stride Alternative
Sports anime and apparently aimed towards females?  I dunno but the sport itself sounds interesting – running relay races that are like a mix between marathon and parkour?  Interesting.
  • Active Raid -Kidou Kyoushuushitsu Dai Hakkei-
Sounds interesting.  And lots of action which I’m okay with.
  • Boku Dake ga Inai Machi
Ooooo mystery (kinda) and being sent back in time to fix things up, etc.  This sounds very interesting!
  • Sekkou Boys
The plot sounds really weird and strange but the main character(?) is voiced by Sugita and this is meant to be a comedy series so…. I’ll try it out just because it’s so lolwtf.
  • Dimension W
The world setting sounds interesting so I’ll check this out.
  • Aijin
Premise sounds interesting and I’m hoping it turns out good because it sounds like a good dark story with supernatural elements.

Anime: autumn 2015

I seem to randomly make an entry on series I’d like to check out for the new season… I never really make one for each season, oops.  Anyway, as usual, I’m using Random Curiosity’s season preview entry as my basis for deeming whether anime series are watch-worthy or not.  I still have quite a lot of last season’s anime to finish off… crap.

Definitely watching:

  • One-Punch Man
I read the manga and it’s absolutely amazing and hilarious.  So I’m definitely watching this!  I hope it doesn’t disappoint… First episode was pretty epic!
  • Noragami ARAGOTO
I’ve seen the first season and enjoyed it so definitely will watch the second season to see more of Yato.
  • Haikyuu!! S2
Yet another 2nd season that I must watch, haha.  I kinda got lazy with reading the manga though… so I’m glad that there’s a second season!
  • Owari no Seraph S2
I forgot that this had a second season… After finishing the first, I got pretty intrigued about the storyline and all so I ended up reading the manga.

Maybe watching:

  • Lupin the Third
I’ll see how this goes…  A very well established series so why not give this a shot?
  • Utawarerumono: Itsuari no Kamen
Oh god it’s been years since I last watched Utawarerumono.  I recall I enjoyed it – probably ‘cos of its world setting.  I was surprised to find out that there’s a new anime… (thanks to the new game I guess?).  I’m not sure how this will tie in as a sequel but we’ll see?
  • Kowabon
Not sure what to expect from this but it sounds interesting?
  • Concrete Revolutio: Choujin Gensou
Setting sounds interesting and also ‘cos it’s animated by BONES.
  • World Trigger: Toubousha Hen
This is a filler arc pretty much… an anime original story.  Not sure if I’ll watch this as I’m behind with World Trigger anime already.  And I’m reading the manga too…. Guess I’ll try out the first couple of episodes.  But I probably won’t watch this until I’m done catching up with World Trigger anime.
  • Osomatsu-san
Not too sure if this is my cup of tea but let’s try this out ‘cos comedy.  I’ll give this an ep or two to try.
  • Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru
Mystery series – I’ll give this a shot.  I like good mysteries so hoping this’ll turn out good.
  • Subete ga F ni Naru
Trying out mostly because it’s in the noitaminA timeslot.  And also another mystery series.

Anime: Spring 2015

I’ve had a skim through new season series and I recall that there were quite a few I wanted to check out.  Okay, let’s go through that list again and see if it’s still that many…

Definitely watching:

  • Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works S2
It’s a given that I’d be watching this.
  • Ghost in the Shell Arise: Alternative Architecture
Aw hell yes!  Though I haven’t seen the other ARISE stuff yet… oh well.
  • Gintama゚
AWW HELL YESSS I’ve missed Gintama anime so much.  So thrilled to finally have more of it!
  • Sidonia no Kishi: Dai-kyuu Wakusei Sen-eki
I enjoyed the first season and I’ve been eagerly looking forward to the second season.  Finally it’s here!
  • Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo
I really enjoyed the live action adaptation and I’ve read a bit of the manga so… I’ll follow up with this anime adaptation!  I hope it doesn’t let me down.
  • Lupin Sansei
    Need I say why?

Maybe watching:

  • Yahari Ore no Seishun Rabukome wa Machigatteiru. Zoku
I might watch the second season of oregairu.  I forgot how I felt towards the first season but I think I enjoyed it, but probably not one of my top faves from that season.
  • Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu
I’ve seen all the past Suzumiya Haruhi series so I may pick up this.
  • Shokugeki no Souma
Why not try it out, heh.  Fooood~
  • Owari no Seraph
    The setting sounds interesting.
  • Kekkai Sensen
    Setting also sounds interesting.
  • Plastic Memories
Idea sounds interesting but it also feels like it’d have a sad ending full of tears… D:
  • Arslan Senki
Only because Arakawa Hiromu is involved, heh, aka FMA and Gin no Saji mangaka.
  • Punchline
Because it’s in the Noitamina programming block, heh.

…holy cow, that’s more than I expected.  And I may also pick up on other series if other people say it’s great.

Anime: Summer 2014

Okay, time to list out things I’m definitely watching (which are mostly sequels) and then series that I’d like to try.

Definitely watching:

  • Free! -Eternal Summer-
    Damn right I’m watching this.
  • Sailor Moon Crystal
  • Sword Art Online II
I may as well throw this into the list.  I’ve seen the first season which started out great and then gradually went downhill.  I think it’s because they rushed it too much?  Either way, I’ll give this another shot.
  • Sengoku BASARA: Judge End
I really enjoyed the first two seasons so hell yeaaaah for more BASARA!
  • Space Dandy 2
WHAT the second season for Space Dandy is this season!?  I didn’t know that… but I’m definitely watching!  I might have to backlog this one though.
  • Monogatari Series: Second Season -Hanamonogatari-
Well, since I’ve watched all the other seasons, I may as well continue with this.  Apparently there’s only 5 episodes…?

Maybe watching:

  • Tokyo Ghoul
Horror, eh.  It certainly sounds promising.
I’m a bit meh over scifi/mecha but then Kajiura Yuki for music…!!  And Urobuchi Gen too?  Hm… I’ll give this a shot.  But then I shouldn’t expect too much from its storyline, heh.
  • DRAMAtical Murder
I enjoyed the game but I’m always hesitant about anime adaptations of otomege so… I’m putting this on the trial list.  If it turns out to be any good, I’ll throw this into the backlog pile, perhaps.
  • Zankyou no Terror
The premise sounds really interesting!  I hope it doesn’t let me down because it feels like there’s a very high chance I’ll stick with this.
  • Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus
I don’t follow the manga but friends who do say that this arc is really good.  So… I guess I’ll try Kuroshitsuji again.
  • Tokyo ESP
    Story sounds interesting, hmm….

I’m somewhat curious about Ao Haru Ride just because it’s by Production I.G.  But then this romance/drama genre isn’t something that always appeals to me in anime and, on top of that, the main guy character is voiced by Kaji Yuuki?  Huuuh… I’m not particularly fond of his voice.  So I don’t know if I’ll try this one out at all.

Also, I didn’t know there’s a re-edit of PSYCHO-PASS.  I’ll skip on that since it’s the same thing as the first season but wow, this makes me pumped for the second season!!  I’m also glad the second season isn’t this season because my list is a tad longer that I would’ve liked…

Sidonia no Kishi

[DeadFish] Sidonia no Kishi - 01 [720p][AAC].mp4_snapshot_12.45_[2014.05.01_16.39.19]

This anime caught my eye from the get-go.  I love a good sci-fi story and this is exactly it.  You have genetically engineered humans (cloning, relying on photosynthesis for food and a third gender which is neither male or female!?), some huuuge creepy looking aliens and mecha.  This is all within a pretty dark atmosphere where they’re all surviving on this giant ship/pod thing and will have to engage battle against the giant aliens.  I’m not too into mecha so I’m glad that this series doesn’t place a huge emphasis on them (so far anyway).

Even the OP caught my attention right from the very beginning as well!  Turns out to be sung by angela which brought up a “durrr no wonder why I liked it instantly!”

The 3D CG was a bit odd at first but I got used to it pretty soon.  The story’s been great so far and the writer does not shy off from killing characters off.  Furthermore, the backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous.  So detailed and instantly caught the attention of the architecture side of me.

…..then I later found out it’s Nihei Tsutomu’s work.  No wonder why.  I’ve never really read his works properly before but thanks to a friend, I knew that he studied architecture and it really shows whenever he draws backgrounds.  And this is all over in Sidonia no Kishi too.  Just look at all these gorgeous backgrounds!

And more under the cut from episodes 1-3.  All spoiler-free as well!

Anime: winter 2014

I’m lagging behind my anime, eeek.  This is partly due to the fact that I’ve got myself into playing the Ace Attorney series.  As a result, I really need to cut down on more of my anime.  Or rather, since there are quite a few ongoing series from last season, I can’t pick up too many from this season.  Anyway, reading up on Random Curiosity’s season preview, as always.

Definitely watching:

  • Seitokai Yakuindomo S2
Of couuuurse I’ll watch this!  I enjoyed the first season a lot.
  • Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! 2
May as well watch this since I enjoyed the first season.
  • Gin no Saji 2

I’ll try these out:

  • Space Dandy
Just because of the production team, really.  Or really just their director.
  • Noragami
Plot sounds interesting.  And also BONES.
  • Nobunaga the Fool
A lot of people on my twitter TL seem to rate it highly so I’ll try this out!  And also the seiyuu.  Sugita mmmm
  • Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta
  • Hamatora The Animation
    The plot sounds interesting!

….I think that will be all for now.  I was hoping to only have five in total but then I may end up dropping series too.  Maybe.  Geh.  Or maybe pick up others.

Anime: autumn 2013

So a couple of reasons why this entry is up later than I would’ve liked:

  1. I didn’t start going through the list until the new season had already begun;
  2. And then I decided to make this entry after I’ve tried out all the series I’ve got on my list.

As usual, I’m linking to Random Curiosity’s season preview.

And anime series on my list (in bold are the ones I’ve decided to continue for now):
